49ers connected to free agent starting CB from AFC South team

Entering the offseason, the San Francisco 49ers are expected to return all of their cornerbacks from 2025, except for Chase Lucas, who will become a restricted free agent at the start of the new league year.

While San Francisco has invested significantly at cornerback in the past few seasons, giving Deommodore Lenoir a massive extension and taking Renardo Green in the second round and Upton Stout in the third, there’s still a chance that they try to sign someone in free agency.

On Sunday, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler revealed that the 49ers are expected to show interest in cornerback Montaric Brown if he hits the market.

Brown, 26, played collegiately at Arkansas from 2017-21, where he earned All-SEC honors in his final year.

The Jacksonville Jaguars took him in the seventh round (No. 222 overall) of the 2022 NFL draft, and over the last four years, he’s appeared in 52 games and started 29 while recording 166 tackles, 24 passes defensed and three interceptions.

Brown is expected to make $9.2 million annually this offseason (per Spotrac), which means San Francisco would probably want him to start opposite Lenoir. Considering that Green was benched near the end of the year, that wouldn’t be too surprising.
