Accused Charlie Kirk Assassin Said He ‘Wishes He Hadn’t Done That’ After Killing, Roommate Says

Topline

The roommate of Tyler Robinson, the accused killer of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, said the alleged assassin returned home the day after the killing and said he wished “he hadn’t done that” in a video interview played in court on Thursday.

Key Facts

Portions of the interview conducted in April with Lance Twiggs, Robinson’s former roommate and romantic partner, were ordered redacted by Judge Tony Graf, but several answers to questions were played at a hearing on Thursday.

Twiggs said he first saw Robinson the morning after the shooting, when he asked him about text messages the two had exchanged the night before, the contents of which were not played in court on Thursday but were included in the indictment—including what appears to be a confession.

“I just asked him in person if what he said was true the night before, and he said it was,” Twiggs said when asked what Robinson told him in person the day after the shooting, adding “he started crying a little bit, and said he wishes he hadn’t done it.”

Twiggs said Robinson then paced around the apartment, before telling his roommate he planned to “talk to his parents or turn himself over.”

When shown pictures of the suspect taken near the crime scene, Twiggs also said the images “definitely do look like him [Robinson].”

However, Twiggs also said he only occasionally heard Robinson talk about politics, and personally had never heard his roommate speak about Kirk.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.

What to Watch For

Robinson was charged with aggravated murder after Kirk’s death and has not entered a plea. Graf is expected to rule Friday on whether prosecutors have enough evidence to bring Robinson to trial.

Roommate Says Robinson Did Not Talk Politics With Him Frequently

Twiggs said he occasionally heard his roommate talk about politics, describing it as commenting on “stuff he heard on the radio, on his drive to work.” However, Twiggs said he only heard him speak on the topic infrequently “because it wasn’t a topic I contributed much on.” He said he heard Robinson say even less about Kirk or LGBTQ issues. “I personally had never heard him talk about Charlie Kirk before specifically,” Twiggs said, and answered “no, not really,” when asked if they ever spoke about gender identity or LGBTQ rights issues. “Usually if he did talk about politics stuff, it was relating to Trump or current, like policies being issued or voted on.” In the text messages included in the indictment, Robinson allegedly told his roommate “I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out.”

Robinson Allegedly Borrowed Equipment to Engrave Bullets

Before the shooting, Twiggs said Robinson asked him to borrow equipment for engraving messages on bullets. “He said he was planning to go hunting with his family,” Twiggs said in the interview. He said he told him where the equipment was and to be careful, but didn’t think about it again until the shooting. Investigators found messages engraved in the bullets that mostly referenced video games and memes. In the messages included in the indictment, Robinson allegedly asked his roommate “remember how I was engraving bullets?” He allegedly called the messages “mostly a big meme, if I see ‘notices bulge uwu’ on fox new I might have a stroke.”
