Craig Butler has firmly dismissed suggestions that AS Roma discarded Leon Bailey during the January window. Instead, the agent says Aston Villa actually demanded the winger’s return. They needed him back to help with their own squad depth. Speaking to CVM Television, Butler cleared up what happened with the Jamaican international’s early exit.

An early training injury kept Bailey out for two months. Because of that, he only played 317 minutes across 11 games and managed just one assist. While some Italian outlets claimed Gian Piero Gasperini didn’t want the player, Butler says Unai Emery made the call to bring him back to strengthen Villa’s lineup.
“He didn’t return to Aston Villa because Roma didn’t want him, but because the English club needed him,” he said.
