It appears a Caitlin Clark suspension is inevitable. She has seven technical fouls — tied for the most in the WNBA with Atlanta’s Angel Reese — and an eighth sparks a one-game suspension.
Fellow Indiana Fever All-Star Aliyah Boston isn’t sure what to do, but she has one suggestion: What if Clark redirected that anger about officiating or opponents toward her teammates?
Boston and WNBA legend Candace Parker tried to make sense of Clark’s latest technical foul on their “Post Moves” podcast.
With the Fever far ahead of the Connecticut Sun on July 22, the Sun’s Saniya Rivers claimed she had Clark “locked up,” though Clark was well on her way to 27 points in a 35-point win. Clark responded with “Look at the (expletive) scoreboard,” and each was assessed a technical.
“She got the tech, and everybody said, ‘Oh there she goes,'” Boston said.
Boston later suggested that Fever players take the brunt of that angst.
“She can just yell at us. … She hasn’t tried it,” Boston said. “(The technical) genuinely made no sense.”
What Caitlin Clark said about technical fouls
After picking up her seventh technical of the season, Clark said she wouldn’t change her fiery on-court demeanor.
“That intensity and that fire is what makes me, me,” Clark said. “But also knowing my team needs me and finding a good balance of that. But I don’t think I’m going to be playing with that in the back of my head, I think that might hinder my play a little bit. I think just continue to be myself and then just try to refocus, to focus on my teammates and how I can help them.”
