ANDREW has been released on bail following his arrest for suspected misconduct in a public office amid the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.

The former prince was taken into custody on his 66th birthday following a dawn raid at Sandringham in Norfolk.

Officers also descended on Royal Lodge in Windsor, Berkshire, on February 19.

Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in a public office, which carries a maximum life sentence.

It came following the release of millions of pages of files related to paedophile financier Epstein.

Andrew has now been released on bail

Thames Valley Police previously said it was reviewing claims Andrew allegedly shared sensitive information with his paedo pal Epstein while serving as the UK’s trade envoy.

Cops also confirmed at the time that the force was separately probing allegations a woman was trafficked to the UK by Epstein to have a sexual encounter with Andrew.

Andrew has consistently and vehemently denied wrongdoing.

Following his arrest, King Charles said: “I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office.

“What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities.

“In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation.

“Let me state clearly: the law must take its course.”

It is understood neither the King nor Buckingham Palace was informed in advance of the arrest.

Prince William and Princess Kate are understood to support the King’s statement.

A number of police forces across the UK are assessing information released as part of the Epstein files document dump.

The National Crime Agency – known as Britain’s FBI – said it was supporting UK forces in their investigations.

Andrew is effectively no longer a royal after he was stripped by the King of both his right to be a prince and his dukedom late last year over his links with Epstein.
