Barcelona are continuing to work on the future of Joaquin Delgado, one of the standout performers in Spanish youth football over the past season.

According to SPORT, the Catalan club remain interested in keeping the striker after an impressive loan spell.

Delgado spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan from Oviedo and ended the season as the highest-scoring player across the entire Segunda RFEF.

While Barcelona are already evaluating several options for their youth setup ahead of next season, Delgado has not been forgotten.

In fact, the club is still exploring ways to ensure he remains part of their long-term plans.

What is Barcelona’s plans?

The report states that Barcelona are currently considering Oscar Gistau and Hamza Abdelkarim as potential centre-forward options for the youth team next season.

However, that planning does not diminish the club’s appreciation of Delgado’s achievements.

Notably, the young striker enjoyed a remarkable campaign at Oviedo, finishing with 20 goals and establishing himself as the most prolific scorer in Segunda RFEF, leaving a strong impression on decision-makers at Barcelona.

The outlet confirms that discussions have already taken place between the player’s representative and the Catalan club.

Those talks focused on finding a formula that would allow Barcelona to retain the striker and negotiate the €4 million buyout condition that had previously been agreed with Oviedo.

Nothing is certain

Despite the positive feelings from Barcelona’s side, the situation remains unresolved.

This is because Delgado still has one year remaining on his contract with Oviedo and, unless an agreement is reached, he is expected to report for pre-season training with his parent club in the coming weeks.

The challenge for Barcelona is that time may not be on their side, as Delgado already has multiple offers on the table, including interest from a club in Portugal’s top division.
