The Buffalo Bills swung a trade with the Chicago Bears this offseason, landing DJ Moore in exchange for a pair of picks to improve their wide receiver room.
Now, with Moore leading the wide receiver room, there are some question marks about how he’s going to be used. Moore is reuniting with Joe Brady in Buffalo, who was his former playcaller with the Carolina Panthers.
Thanks in part to that familiarity, the Bills’ plan with Moore is an exciting one. As Ben Solak of ESPN reports, the Bills are planning to use Moore in a more downfield and intermediate role rather than his more shallow usage with the Bears.

“But when I asked around about the plan for Moore’s usage in this offense, I heard a lot about deep- and intermediate-breaking routes,” Solak writes.
This is a very exciting update for the Bills, as hearing that Moore won’t simply be used near the line of scrimmage or in the short-to-intermediate part of the field is a great sign.
Khalil Shakir can retain that shorter area of the field, while Moore can be more of a field-stretcher for the Bills now that he’s back under Brady.
But, it’s important to note that Moore isn’t going to just be a deep threat; the Bills will be using him as a high-volume receiver.
He caught 50 of 85 targets in 17 games last season for 682 yards and six touchdowns with the Bears last season. It was the lowest volume he’s had in a season since his rookie year.

Now, reunited with Brady in Buffalo, the expectation, according to Solak, is for Moore to be a much bigger part of the receiving game.
Solak further elaborated on the Bills’ plan with Moore this upcoming season, and it’s the exact kind of update that Bills fans should love to hear.
“Internally, the Bills say that they should be a lot more productive off play-action given how dominant their running game has been in the past few seasons, and Moore is the first guy up for those one-on-one downfield opportunities,” Solak writes.
Josh Allen will be using Moore as not just another short-area target, as the star receiver will be utilized in all areas of the field in this Bills’ offense. He’s someone Bills fans can get excited about, as he could have a huge 2026 season with Allen and Brady.
