A TEEN boy has appeared in court charged with stabbing a 15-year-old girl in the back with a carving knife in a school toilet area.
The 15-year-old, who can’t be named, was arrested on Wednesday after armed police swooped on Thorpe St Andrew School in Norwich.
He appeared at Norwich Magistrates’ Court today charged with attempted murder and possession of a knife on school premises.
Prosecutor Josephine Jones said CCTV of a toilet area at the school showed a boy “all in black wearing a black mask” carrying a “carving knife with a lengthy blade”.
She added: “The victim had been stabbed to the back.”
Ms Jones said the defendant fled but was arrested by police nearby as the school was placed in lockdown.
A search at his home allegedly showed information that he was “looking for specific victims”, the court was told.
The teen, who spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth, was remanded into youth detention accommodation.
He will next appear at Norwich Crown Court on April 10.
The horror unfolded at around 10.20am on Wednesday after the girl was stabbed.
Teachers barricaded classroom doors and some students hid under desks as the school was plunged into lockdown.
The girl was taken to hospital with minor injuries and has since been discharged.
Norfolk Police have said they are continuing to conduct reassurance patrols both at the school and in the area over the coming days.
Thorpe St Andrew is an 11-18 school, plus sixth form, around three miles east of Norwich.
The mixed secondary school received a “Good” rating in its last Ofsted report.
