The Denver Post’s Luca Evans dropped an information-filled post today that included the Denver Broncos having interest in a veteran wide receiver. Sources told The Denver Post that the Broncos have interest in Green Bay Packers free agent wide receiver Romeo Doubs.
Evans states that the Broncos are interested in Doubs, noting that he is a big-bodied wide receiver who won’t consistently demand the ball and has good red-zone production.
Doubs is a definite potential fit for the Broncos here; Denver has interest in the former Green Bay receiver, an NFL source told The Post. He’s a big-bodied target who doesn’t demand the ball but has good red-zone production and can play in a variety of alignments
I wrote last month about Doubs potential fit with the Broncos and noted that he would give them a reliable WR2 behind veteran Courtland Sutton. He was the Packers’ trusted third-down option and would be another option Broncos quarterback Bo Nix can trust on those key downs. However, he does not fit the WR1 role that many fans want the Broncos to add this offseason, but he would improve the wide receiver room overall.
The Broncos nearly signed Stefon Diggs last season and appear to be in the market for another veteran wide receiver this offseason. Troy Franklin, Pat Bryant, and Marvin Mims Jr. all had their moments this past season, but none of the three proved to be a consistent WR2 threat for the Broncos. The team remains high on the three young wide receivers, but apparently, they are still looking to add to that room.
Doubs is expected to be one of the top free-agent wide receivers available, with multiple teams interested, so it’ll be interesting to see how much the Broncos are willing to offer. Will they compete with some of the other wide receiver-needy teams, or willthey draw a line in the sand due to them reportedly feeling good about their wide receiver room? Could this mean they’re also exploring the trade market for a wide receiver? Only time will tell.
At the end of the day, the Broncos are expected to add a playmaker or two in free agency. We know they need at least one running back, will need to upgrade their tight end room, and reportedly are looking to add to their wide receiver room. The legal tampering period starts on Monday, so we’ll soon have our answers.
