Can you park near UT on Longhorns game days? What to know before you go

It’s officially the most wonderful time of the year for those who bleed burnt orange here in the Lone Star State, as college football returns to Texas’ capital city. But don’t risk a great game day by not double-checking where you’re parking your car.

The University of Texas at Austin’s Texas Longhorns face off against the Texas State University Bobcats during UT’s season opener on Saturday, September 5 at 2:30 p.m. at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium. As thousands of fans flock to DKR for opening day festivities, they’ll want to double check the do’s and don’ts behind parking on and near campus to avoid any tickets or a tow.

Here’s everything Longhorn fans need to know about home game parking.

Will UT Austin tow Longhorn fans’ vehicles if they park on campus?

Yes, UT Austin has made it incredibly clear that towing is and will continue to be enforced on campus during home games. Online, the university’s Parking and Transportation Services department outlined parking restrictions and towing rules ahead of Saturday’s kick off, as well as suggestions on where to park.

All vehicles parked in the following parking lots must be relocated by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, September 4 to avoid towing: Lots 15, 18, 19, 20, 35, 37, 38, 39, 40, 53, 56, 80, 92, 102, 108, 116 and 118.

For those parked along university streets, they also must move their vehicles on Friday by the following deadlines:

• By 7:59 p.m.:

  • San Jacinto Boulevard from DeLoss Dodds Way to 20th Street

• By 11:59 p.m.:

  • 21st Street from Speedway to San Jacinto Boulevard

  • 24th Street from Speedway to San Jacinto Boulevard

  • Robert Dedman Drive from Dean Keeton Street to DeLoss Dodds Way

  • San Jacinto Boulevard from Dean Keeton Street to DeLoss Dodds Way

  • San Jacinto Boulevard from 20th Street to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard

  • Speedway from Dean Keeton Street to 24th Street

  • Trinity Street from Robert Dedman Drive to DeLoss Dodds Way

Those parking in garages on Friday must relocate their vehicles by 11:59 p.m. at the following locations:

• Brazos Garage (BRG): 210 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Austin, TX 78712

• Manor Garage (MAG): 2017 Robert Dedman Drive, Austin, TX 78712

• San Jacinto Garage (SJG): 2400 San Jacinto Blvd., Austin, TX 78705

• Trinity Garage (TRG): 1815 Trinity St., Austin, TX 78712

• East Campus Garage (ECG): 1200 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Austin, TX 7872

  • Those with ECG R permits will not be required to relocate

The following service area drives will close by 11:59 p.m. on Friday to vehicles, requiring cars to be relocated from the following sites:

• Moncrief-Neuhaus Athletic Center (MNC): 2012 Robert Dedman Drive, Austin, TX 78712

• Recreational Sports Center (RSC): 2001 San Jacinto Blvd., Austin, TX 78712

If I have a UT parking permit, where can I relocate my vehicle?

Those with permits can move their cars to lots 106, 110 (parking in non-UT CDC spaces), 111, 112, 115, 119 or 121. Typical overnight parking restrictions will be waived beginning on Friday, prior to that waiver ending at 3 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8. 

Those with permits for the F and S garages can park in the Guadalupe Garage, San Antonio Garage, Speedway Garage and 27th Street Garage so long as spaces are open. Garage R permit holders will receive a separate email specific to where they can relocate their vehicles.

Where can I park on UT game days?

For football game days, public parking is offered for a fee at:

• Health Center Garage: 1601 Trinity St., Bldg. A, Austin, TX 78701

• Lot 15: 2501 Whitis Ave., Austin, TX 78705

• Lot 18/92: 2668-2680 Wichita St., Austin, TX 78712

The Texas Facilities Commission also offers parking options in state garages for a given fee. Those pay-for-use options are outlined online.

Where can I find special accommodations parking?

While special accommodations parking isn’t ADA compliant, it does guarantee parking closer to the stadium for those needing to minimize their travel. If fans need ADA-compliant parking, spaces are available in Lot 118 as well as along Trinity Street near DeLoss Dodds Way.

Special accommodations parking costs $50 per vehicle and is offered on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 7 a.m. on game day at these checkpoint locations:

• Trinity Street near DeLoss Dodds Way (Robert Dedman Drive and Dean Keeton Street checkpoint)

• Lot 118, located south of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard between Red River Street and the Interstate 35 Frontage Road.

Checkpoint entries for those with ADA credentials and accommodations will be located at Robert Dedman Drive at Dean Keeton Street. Those looking to drop off visitors with ADA accommodations will do so at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Trinity Street.
