Day 1 of the decathlon begins at 5 a.m. ET and features former Olympic champion Damian Warner in the 100m, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400m segments. The event concludes Friday with the final five legs. In addition to his Olympic victory in 2021 in Tokyo, Warner took bronze at the 2016 Olympics and has captured four medals at the world championships (two silver, two bronze). He won gold at the Commonwealth Games in 2018 and was leading through seven stages in 2022 before he no-heighted in the pole vault, knocking him out of the competition. The same thing happened at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, where Warner was in second place until fouling out.
The men’s 400m semifinals at 8:10 a.m. ET feature 21-year-old rising star Christopher Morales Williams. After bursting on the scene in 2024 by winning gold at the NCAA championships, breaking the Canadian record and making his Olympic debut, he scored the biggest victory of his career this past March, capturing the indoor world title in championship-record time. Lauren Gale is the lone Canadian in the women’s 400m semis at 7:45 a.m. ET. The finals are on Saturday. Olympic 4x100m champion Aaron Brown will run in the men’s 200m semifinals at 2:07 p.m.
