The Boston Red Sox parting ways with decorated manager Alex Cora following a slow 10-17 start to the regular season was a surprise to say the least.

Cora managed the Red Sox for parts of seven seasons across two stints, leading the team to a World Series championship in 2018 after setting a franchise record with 108 regular-season wins. Since then, the Red Sox have had mixed results, only reaching the postseason once in the past four seasons.

Triple-A Worcester manager Chad Tracy will serve as the Red Sox’s interim manager for the time being. After winning 5-3 against the Baltimore Orioles in his managerial debut, he teased a more “aggressive” play style for Boston during his postgame press conference.

“I mean, like we talked about before, you guys asked about our team, and you know, style, the style matches the team,” Tracy said in a video posted to YouTube by Sox Content on Sunday. “We have guys that are athletic, fast, we have speed. So we can create things like we did today. We made some outs, and you know, maybe some were a little careless, but you want to be aggressive.”

In his introductory press conference, Tracy mentioned he wanted to get players on base and be aggressive on the base paths, and that’s what happened in his managerial debut. During the Red Sox’s victory over the Orioles, the team combined for four stolen bases on five attempts, although Wilyer Abreu also got picked off in the fourth inning.

Boston’s offense needs to be aggressive with its lack of power. Even with Willson Contreras’ home run in the 5-3 win, the Red Sox still rank toward the bottom of the league in home runs early on this season.

Embracing Tracy’s aggressive approach could be just what the Red Sox need to get their season back on track.
