Rihanna is a supportive partner in love and luxe.
The billionaire businesswoman, singer and style icon sat front and center at the New York debut of AWGE, the fashion line creative-directed by her “husband” A$AP Rocky. Wearing a fur-trimmed black leather AWGE coat over a black lace bra with footless stockings and stilettos, RiRi posed playfully for the cameras, holding the program notes in front of her eyes. She perched next to A$AP’s cousin, A$AP Nast, the rapper and influencer from Harlem, not far from Julia Fox and Evan Mock.
“I’m always proud of my man,” Rihanna told Alexa after the runway extravaganza. “My guy’s creative and a genius.”
The young and curiously named fashion brand – pronounced Og – launched in 2024 and grew out of A$AP’s record label and creative agency. His first two collections were held during Paris Fashion Week and Friday’s night hometown presentation was staged in the landmarked former Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank downtown. The runway curved around a group of glam stations, where models stopped for touchups.
What does AWGE mean? That question gets a laugh – and zero explanation– from A$AP.
“The first rule of AWGE is we never reveal what AWGE is,” he told Ebro Darden on The Ebro Show in January. “And the second rule is when in doubt, revert to rule #1.
“It’s just a creative conglomerate: record label, clothing fashion brand, creative incubator, publishing company, creative direction company,” continued the rapper and producer, whose fourth studio album, “Don’t Be Dumb,” hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart last month. “We literally do creative direction for other artists. Creativity is what drives it and creativity is first.”
Down his catwalk came tough leather looks, natty suiting, preppy mini-kilts and deconstructed polo dresses. RayBan sunglasses and giant furry bags and mittens added extra oomph.
The father of three little ones – he shares sons RZA Athelston Mayers and Riot Rose Mayers and daughter Rocki Irish Mayers with longtime love Rihanna – clearly has babies on the brain. One of his models pushed a futuristic stroller while others cradled furry infant carriers.
Let’s just say that AWGE is another beautiful bundle of joy.
