It’s not every day you see a brand new Lamborghini SUV get treated like a getaway car, but that’s exactly what happened back in February when Atlanta Falcons rookie linebacker James Pearce Jr. found himself in the middle of a chaotic police standoff in Doral, Florida. Newly released body camera footage shows an officer with his gun drawn, ordering Pearce out of his Lamborghini, only to watch the 22-year-old shut the door and speed off instead.
For those of us who appreciate a well-built performance vehicle, it’s hard not to wince watching a six-figure SUV get driven like it owes somebody money, right into a police pursuit. The Lamborghini Urus is built to be fast and composed, not to be a prop in a felony chase, and this incident is a good reminder that no amount of horsepower excuses bad decisions behind the wheel.
According to police reports, the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute between Pearce and his ex-girlfriend, WNBA forward Rickea Jackson, who told officers Pearce had been following her in the Lamborghini after she ended their relationship. Jackson said Pearce intentionally rammed his SUV into her car, first from behind and then head-on, as she tried to reach the Doral Police Department for help.
When officers arrived on scene, things escalated fast. Pearce initially got out of his vehicle but then climbed back in, locked the doors, and drove off, allegedly striking an officer in the leg in the process. What followed was a short but dramatic chase that ended when Pearce crashed the Lamborghini at an intersection and took off running before officers caught up with him.
What the Bodycam Footage Shows
The newly released video captures the tension of the moment about as clearly as you’d expect. An officer can be heard repeatedly ordering Pearce to get on the ground, and Pearce refusing before slamming the car door and taking off.
It’s the kind of footage that makes you appreciate just how quickly a routine traffic stop can spiral into something much more serious, for everyone involved, officers included.
The Legal Fallout

Pearce was booked on multiple felony charges, including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated stalking, and fleeing and eluding police. He posted a $20,500 bond shortly after his arrest.
Since then, Pearce has agreed to enter a pretrial intervention program, a six-month arrangement that could result in the felony charges being dismissed if he meets all the conditions, including staying away from Jackson and completing court-ordered therapy.
Lessons Learned
Whatever your take on the legal side of things, there’s a broader takeaway here about how quickly a bad moment behind the wheel can turn into a life altering one. A car, especially a fast, powerful one, can never be the answer to a personal conflict.
For Pearce, a promising rookie season now comes with a legal cloud hanging over it, and for Jackson, the ordeal is a reminder of how dangerous these situations can become when emotions and horsepower collide.
