If the Cranford football team needs something, there’s a good chance that Gabe Worrell will be on the case.
The senior had a big game as the Cougars topped Bernards 31-24 in their opener to snap the Mountaineers’ 32-game Big Central Conference winning streak on Sept. 4.

Thrilled Cranford fans voted Worrell the MyCentralJersey.com’s BCC Readers’ Choice Football Player of the Week in an online poll open to the public.

Worrell had a good junior season (446 rushing yards on 100 carries, 17 tackles) but now seems in line for a breakout campaign.
He rushed for 172 yards on 16 carries with a 77-yard touchdown run against Bernards and added nine tackles.
“Gabe has fully embraced his role as senior captain and has shown a willingness to do whatever it takes to help the team succeed,” Cranford coach Erik Rosenmeier said. “The competition in the backfield has pushed him to another level and has brought out a greater sense of urgency so far this season.”
