The public has been able to put forward names every year since 2015 but only a fraction are usually chosen.

More than 50,000 suggestions were submitted for the 2025/2026 season, with only 21 taken up. Funny ideas also included Keir Stormer, David Blowy, Storm-y Daniels, Aaaaaaaaagh and Stormy McStormFace.

The names were revealed by a Freedom of Information request.

Others included Hail Yeah, About Time We Need Some Rain, Buzz Lightning, Darth Vapour, Arnold Stormneggar, Harristorm Ford, Stormzy and Fifty Shades of Rain.

One wag even suggested Storm Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, after the Welsh village with the longest name in the UK.
