Harry Kane named FC Bayern May Player of the Month

In case there was still any doubt about how extraordinary his season with FC Bayern has been, Harry Kane once again capped his outstanding performance with a hat-trick in the final competitive match of the season. The 32-year-old scored all three goals – a header, a right-footed shot and a penalty – in the cup final against VfB Stuttgart, single-handedly earning the record cup winners their first success in the competition for six years.

But this latest sensational display with the first lupenreiner Hattrick (three goals scored consecutively in the same half) in cup final history was not the only reason why you’ve chosen Kane as your FC Bayern Player of the Month for May. The England captain received 56 percent of the votes cast, beating Leon Goretzka (17%) and Michael Olise (14%).

The Englishman was also on fire in the last Bundesliga game of the season at the Allianz Arena, doing what he does best: scoring goals. In the 5-2 victory over 1. FC Köln to crown the league campaign, Kane was again the star with three goals before Bayern were presented with the Meisterschale for the 35th time. It was his fourth Bundesliga hat-trick of the season – afterwards, the striker received the Torjägerkanone award for the highest scorer for the third year in a row. Of the 122 goals that Bayern netted in this league campaign, Kane contributed 36 – almost twice as many as his nearest rival, Stuttgart’s Deniz Undav, with 19. In the cup, he plundered 10 goals in six appearances – needless to say, the most in the competition.

Prolific in Champions League too

And even though the Bavarians were painfully eliminated in the semi-finals against eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain in Europe, Kane was again on the scoresheet in Bayern’s last outing of this season. As he did in the 5-4 defeat in the French capital, the FCB number 9 netted in the return leg against Paris in Munich. Unfortunately, his equaliser to make it 1-1 on the night couldn’t change the outcome. It was his 14th strike in his 13th Champions League appearance of the season. Harry Kane – your rightful May Player of the Month.
