A week after the end of the summer window, Inter formally took care of one of their renewals, as Francesco Pio Esposito penned a contract until 2032 on Sunday. It’s the first one in Italy that will last more than five seasons, Calcio e Finanza reports.
The striker will see his salary grow to €2.7M annually, with a €4.99M gross cost, up from the previous €1.85M. He has recorded 12 goals and 8 assists in 53 matches with them.
Inter took advantage of a recent legislative change to lock up Esposito for more time than usual. It has been possible to go beyond the standard five years only since June 30th, 2025. While it has become the norm abroad, especially in the Premier League, no Serie A team had leaned on such a possibility thus far. The new limit is eight campaigns.
On the other hand, the modification doesn’t have major financial benefits. The amortization will still span over five years, even if the pact is longer. The counter-move dissuades clubs from agreeing to extra-long deals just to massage their balance sheets. In this case, the youngster will weigh around €5.15M annually, with a €3.1M bump.
Our Take on Inter and Esposito
It’s a no-brainer, as the figures are still pretty low, relatively speaking. They were always confident in him, but they probably didn’t expect him to be a co-starter from the get-go after his time at Spezia. They’ll try to make him a stalwart, which is not an easy thing to achieve in today’s football. The more interesting question is whether they believe in him enough to move on from Marcus Thuram next summer rather than re-upping his contract.
