iOS 27 Might Let Users Create Custom Passes for Apple Wallet App

Apple’s upcoming major iPhone operating system update, iOS 27, is expected to come with a wealth of new features. A new way to create passes in Apple Wallet might be one of them. According to a Bloomberg report, ticket and pass platforms that don’t support Apple Wallet may still be able to appear in the app via a user-created, custom pass.

Since its introduction as Apple Passbook in 2021, Apple Wallet has slowly become one of the most important apps on the iPhone. Users can store debit and credit cards, gift cards, digital car keys, airline boarding passes, insurance cards, concert and museum tickets, and membership cards in the app. In some states, you can even add your driver’s license, state-issued identification card, or passport to the app.

Still, there are plenty of platforms that don’t allow people to add a ticket or pass to Apple Wallet, despite having all the necessary features. Apple’s new feature requires user intervention but will still get the job done.

The feature, which works with tickets and passes that have scannable QR codes, allows customers to import the code to generate a custom pass, according to the Bloomberg report. Google’s own Wallet app for Android has had a similar feature since 2024.

Apple is apparently testing multiple template layouts for different pass types. A standard pass will be orange, a membership will be blue, and limited-time events, like movies and sporting events, will be purple. The pass builder will also feature tools for style and customization.

iOS 27 is expected to be previewed in June at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, and will likely be released in September when the newest iPhone, iPhone 18, comes out.

While custom passes in Apple Wallet aren’t nearly as exciting as the upcoming Gemini-powered Siri in iOS 27, they’re reportedly one of several new features in Apple’s latest operating system update.

A representative for Apple didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
