The late James Ransone’s wife, Jamie McPhee, shared a candid message about single parenting in the wake of her husband’s death while celebrating their son’s birthday.

“Baby king Jack is 7 today,” she captioned an Instagram post on Tuesday, May 5. “I can’t believe it. The most handsome, stubborn, funny, affectionate, strong boy and we wouldn’t want it any other way. Love you to the moon and back!”

McPhee shared multiple pictures, many of which included Ransone. She also offered an inside look at Jack losing his first tooth before sending a sweet message to her support system.

“To all of our friends and family — it takes a village indeed. We love everyone so much,” McPhee added. “Thank you for all your support, love, kindness, food, tears, and laughs these last 5 months. I can finally see that every day is a gift so on this one we celebrate Jack together. Thank you thank you thank you.”

Ransone, who was known for his roles in The Wire and It: Chapter Two, died by suicide at age 46 in December 2025. He and McPhee wed in September 2017. Along with Jack, they also shared a daughter named Violet, 4.

“I told you I have loved you 1000 times before and I know I will love you again,” McPhee captioned an Instagram post days after his death. “You told me – I need to be more like you and you need to be more like me – and you were so right. Thank you for giving me the greatest gifts – you, Jack and Violet. We are forever.”

Ransone’s friends and family have been supporting McPhee following her loss with a GoFundMe page, which has raised more than $250,000 since his death.

“This fund has been created to support Jamie and the children as they navigate life after an unimaginable loss,” the website’s description reads. “Its purpose is simple: to give Jamie the space to focus fully on Jack and Violet, to care for them, protect their sense of security, and ensure they have a bright future — even without James’s light present in their everyday lives.”

The GoFundMe description noted that McPhee and their kids were “the center of his world,” referring to Ransone.

“They loved him infinitely, and he loved them just as fiercely in return,” it added. “Their bond was deep, joyful, and unmistakable to anyone who witnessed it.”
