Here’s some good news: Jonathan Greenard was spotted warming up for the Philadelphia Eagles’ first regular season practice as the team prepares for their Week 1 game against the Washington Commanders.
The team will issue a formal injury report later today but, for now, it’s good to see that Greenard is finally back on the field after missing the entirety of training camp due to the pec strain he suffered while while training.
The guess here is that Greenard will be listed as a limited participant on his first day back but we’ll see. The Inquirer’s Jeff McLane says that the team wants to see how he handles this week before determining if he’s ready to suit up on Sunday.
Even if Greenard can’t play in Week 1, it seems like his return will be happening sooner than later. That much jibes with the Eagles’ decision to NOT keep him on the reserve/physically unable to perform (PUP) list, which would’ve made him ineligible to play in the first four games.
It remains to be seen if Greenard, whenever he does play, is hampered by the injury that held him out for a prolonged stretch. If not, well, that’d be a great development for the Eagles’ defense!
Greenard has arguably become less important to the team than he was at the time they traded for him. That’s not an indictment of him, to be clear Rather, it’s about feeling more inspired about Jalyx Hunt and Nolan Smith after watching them look pretty good this summer. A.J. Epenesa and Arnold Ebiketie also seem like quality rotational contributors.
Put it all together and there’s potential for the Eagles to have one of the stronger pass rushes in the NFL this season.
