Kelly Osbourne and Melissa Rivers have a close-knit bond.
Osbourne, 41, opened up about her friendship with Rivers, 58, while chatting with Hello! magazine in an article published on Monday, August 31. Osbourne shared that she connected with Melissa through her late mom, Joan Rivers.
“The best working years of my life were working side by side with Joan Rivers,” Osbourne reflected of her and Joan’s show, Fashion Police. “I consider myself one of the luckiest people in the world. I was like her apprentice. … I learnt so much from her.”
Osbourne continued, “Her daughter, Melissa, was one of the first people I called when my dad passed. She was really there for me. Being able to work under somebody so incredible, fearless, funny, a powerhouse — I was lucky.”
Kelly’s dad, Ozzy Osbourne, died at age 76 in July 2025 following a battle with Parkinson’s disease. Kelly has been candid about her grief journey, telling the publication, “Time is the most important thing we have. Life is so precious. Trust me, if you could love someone back into this world, he’d be sitting next to me right now. But you can’t — it’s just gone. I encourage people to love more. Tell someone you love them when you feel it.”
Melissa has also dealt with her fair share of grief. Her mom, Joan, died at 81 in September 2014 after experiencing complications during what was supposed to be a routine throat procedure. Melissa later settled a malpractice lawsuit against the doctors who had performed the surgery.
Elsewhere in Monday’s interview, Kelly discussed the criticism she received for her noticeable weight loss after Ozzy’s death.
In December 2025, she posted a viral video on social media clapping back at her trolls. “I don’t even know how to say this, so I’m just gonna say it,” she began the clip. “To the people who keep thinking they’re being funny and mean by writing comments like ‘Are you ill?’ or ‘Get off Ozempic’ [or] ‘You don’t look right,’ my dad just died, and I’m doing the best that I can, and the only thing I have to live for right now is my family.”
She added at the time, “And I choose to share my content with you and share the happy side of my life, not the miserable side of my life. So to all those people, f*** off.”
Now, Kelly told Hello! that she’s “getting a lot better.”
“You’ve got to fix the head before you can fix the body,” she said, noting that it’s “a slow process.” She explained, “It’s going to take me a minute. I’m not going to be fixed in a day. I’m not going to be fixed on one therapy session. This is a lifetime of work I’ve got to do and continue to do for the rest of my life.”
