Formula 1 competed in China and it concluded with a first career victory. Kimi Antonelli and the No. 12 team for Mercedes won the Chinese Grand Prix, earning their first victory of the 2026 Formula 1 season. Antonelli cruised to the win, beating Russell with little-to-no concern over the course of the event.
The 19-year-old driver has been very impressive to start the 2026 Formula 1 season; however, not all Mercedes power units are thriving. Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris were unable to start the Chinese Grand Prix due to sudden electrical issues, sidelining McLaren for the entire event. Piastri hasn’t even completed a formation lap through two races.
On the other side of the equation, Antonelli is proving to be a legitimate championship contender. Through two races, Antonelli sits second in the standings, only four points behind Russell due to the Sprint race on Saturday. Antonelli will never forget his first win in China, and he hopes to carry the momentum into Japan in two weeks.
