The tune didn’t simply overperform on streaming platforms, nor did it sell significantly better than it played. “Golden” was the kind of blockbuster that soared to No. 1 on nearly every Billboard chart it was eligible to lead, as Americans consumed the upbeat anthem every way they could.
Earlier this month, “Golden” won an Academy Award for Best Original Song, and just a few weeks prior, it became the first K-pop track to score a Grammy. Thanks to its historic showings, “Golden” rises on a number of Billboard lists, and the Huntr/x-led hit also continues to tie a number of longevity records when it comes to K-pop music.
“Golden” Returns to the Streaming Songs Chart Top 10
On this week’s Streaming Songs chart, “Golden” returns to the top 10 following its Oscar win. The tune surges from No. 23 to No. 8. The former No. 1 has now spent 38 weeks as one of the 50 most popular titles on all streaming platforms – and that’s one of the longest runs ever for a K-pop composition.
Just last week, “Golden” was on the same level as “Apt.” by Blackpink singer Rosé and her collaborator Bruno Mars. That Grammy-nominated tune lived on the list for 37 periods. It has now been pushed down to fourth place in terms of the longest-charting K-pop releases in Streaming Songs history.
“Golden” Trails “Gangnam Style” and “Baby Shark”
Psy’s “Gangnam Style” may always rank as the longest-charting K-pop single in the years-long run of the Streaming Songs chart. That track, which helped usher in the K-pop wave that has been going on for well over a decade at this point, appeared somewhere on the register for an incredible 122 weeks.
“Baby Shark,” which is credited to Pinkfong – something of a musical act/brand hybrid – was once one of the ultimate viral sensations. Its popularity around the world, and especially with young Americans, helped keep it on the Streaming Songs tally for 59 frames.
“Golden” Lives Inside the Top 10 Across the Charts
“Golden” currently appears on nine Billboard charts, and it occupies a spot inside the top 10 on each and every one of them. That wasn’t quite the case last period. Before the Oscars, “Golden” only missed out on landing inside the highest tier on the Streaming Songs ranking.
The award winner lifts on half a dozen lists. “Golden” returns to No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart, becoming the top-selling tune in America once more. It also nearly reconquers both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S., but fails to do so by just one space.
“How It’s Done” and “Takedown” Are Dance Streaming Hits
Billboard classifies “Golden” as a pop song, so it is eligible for the general, non-genre-specific rosters, as well as a handful of radio lists that look at that one style. Several other tracks from KPop Demon Hunters – “How It’s Done” and “Takedown” – are labeled as dance, so they can land on the Dance Streaming Songs chart, of which there is no pop equivalent. This week, “How It’s Done” steps up one space to No. 10 on the Dance Streaming Songs rundown, while “Takedown” reappears at No. 15.
