After Monday’s wild MLB trade deadline, many players who were dealt debuted with their new teams on Tuesday, including Luis Arraez.
Arraez, who was traded from the San Francisco Giants to the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday, played second base and hit cleanup for the Phillies in Tuesday’s home game against the Washington Nationals.
He immediately made a good first impression in front of his new fans, ripping an RBI single in his first at-bat for Philadelphia in the bottom of the first, giving the Phillies a quick 1-0 lead.
The four-time All-Star delivered again in his second at-bat, drilling an RBI double in the bottom of the third to extend Philadelphia’s lead to 2-0 and kicking off a three-run inning for the Phillies.

He finished 2-for-4 with a run, a double and two RBI, propelling Philadelphia to a 5-0 victory over the Nationals. The three-time batting champ raised his NL-leading average to .325 in the process.
With his elite contact skills, Arraez should provide a boost to a middling Phillies offense that ranks 16th in runs per game, 23rd in batting average and 23rd in OPS.
