A MAJOR motorway is closed with delays stretching back for miles after a crash.

Two of three lanes are closed on the M6 northbound in Cheshire, between Junction 19 (Knutsford) and Junction 20 (M56).

Traffic officers are on the scene and a recovery is en route, according to National Highways: North-West.

It adds: “There’s a 40 minute delay on approach with 4.5 miles of congestion.”

Travel service Inrix says: “Two lanes closed and queueing traffic due to accident on M6 Northbound after J19 A556 (Knutsford).

“Traffic was briefly held but has now been released with lanes two and three (of three) remaining closed.”
