TRAFFIC on a major UK motorway has ground to a halt due to a multiple car pile-up as drivers are warned of 40 minute delays.
The M6 in both directions between junction 20 for the M56 and junction 21 for Warrington is currently at a standstill.
Motorists should expect severe delays of 40 minutes at Thelwall Viaduct.
Cheshire Police and Fire Service are on the scene along with National Highways Traffic Officers.
A spokesperson for National Highways said: “Traffic is currently closed on the M6 in both directions between J20 M56 and J21 Warrington due to a multi-vehicle collision.
“Cheshire Police and Cheshire Fire are on scene.
“There are currently delays of 40 mins on approach.”
