Malik Nabers, Cam Skattebo show very different injury progress at Giants charity event

Malik Nabers, Cam Skattebo show very different injury progress at Giants charity event originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The New York Giants took part in the Brian Burns Charity Softball Game Saturday and it provided very different looks at the injury recovery progress for wide receiver Malik Nabers and running back Cam Skattebo.

Based on a video shared by the New York Post’s Ryan Dunleavy, Nabers didn’t look to be moving great as he continues to work his way back from a torn ACL suffered in 2025.

Nabers was spotted throwing dodge balls around and his movement was rather stiff, which only fed into the concern he won’t be ready for Week 1.

Head coach John Harbaugh has said the hope is Nabers will be ready for the start of the season, but he didn’t make any promises, either.

“He’s in the middle of it. It’s such a hard thing. It’s an ACL, and whatever else he had in that knee,” Harbaugh saidk. “Not a simple knee [injury], you know? So, he’s in the slog of it, the grind of it, I would say. So, he’s fighting through it, and he’s here every day working hard at it.

“Just impossible to predict. I mean, the goal is to start the season and get out there sometime in training camp. That’d be the goal, and we’ll see what happens.”

While the concern for Nabers grows, there is now reason to be as optimistic as ever that Skattebo, who is working his way back from a fractured fibula, will be ready to go as early as training camp.

After hitting a home run during the charity softball game, Skattebo ripped off a back flip before touching home plate.

It is important to point out that the recovery timeline for Skattebo’s injury is shorter than Nabers’.

The Giants wideout also waited about a month to have the initial surgery on his knee, and he had a second procedure in February.

After watching that video, we would not bet on Nabers being ready for the start of the season and he’s more likely to land on the PUP list and miss the first four contests.

That’s obviously not ideal for the Giants, but they also can’t rush Nabers back and risk his knee becoming a long-term problem.
