Olympique de Marseille manager Habib Beye responded today publicly over reports of tensions with his players following a draw against OGC Nice (1-1) last weekend. At a press conference attended by Get French Football News, the OM boss accused journalists of “bad practice” when addressing reports in the French press this week.
L’Équipe reported several days ago that Beye had fallen out with several players, including Mason Greenwood – who allegedly informed Beye via his lawyer that he wasn’t able to start against Nice due to injury. The paper, along with RMC Sport, reported on a dressing room clash with Abdelli, the Algerian reportedly responding “you’re not my dad,” when feeling picked on by criticism from Beye following the Nice result.
“There’s always pressure and tension in the dressing room, from the first day to the last,” said Beye at today’s press conference attended by Get French Football News. “But that doesn’t mean it’s about to explode. That’s not the case. What bothers me is that it’s always the same old story and the same old rumours. I get the impression it’s always linked to my presence. What bothers me are the lies.”
“I hear all sorts of things in the dressing room; some people here lack journalistic ethics,” added Beye. “When I see the lies that are being spread… It’s disheartening; if you don’t have the facts, you shouldn’t try to make them up.”
“It’s easy to check the facts. When I see what’s being made up about me, I’m not surprised.”
Marseille face FC Nantes this weekend with the obligation to win if they are to have any chance of qualifying for European football next season. A Champions League spot for Les Olympiens is no longer in their hands, with results depending on Lille, Rennes, and Lyon in the final three games of the season.
