THIS is the terrifying moment a pair of masked thugs try to break into a home while a family sleeps before a brave dad chases them away with a bat.

Devin Parmar, his wife and two children were at home in West Wickham, London, when the ordeal unfolded in the early hours of March 5.

Video footage, captured on the family’s doorbell camera, shows a pair of masked men approach the front door.

The duo, dressed in all black, can be seen walking through the garden before one of them covers the camera with a gloved hand.

Both men appear to be wielding tools of some sort as they carry out their break in.

When the camera is covered Devin was notified and a light comes on upstairs in the family home.

Immediately, the courageous dad rushes downstairs to confront the two thugs.

Before he can get to them, the duo manage to break through his front door, however.

Wearing only his boxer shorts and a t-shirt Devin then appears at the entrance to the home seconds after the two thugs made their escape.

He comes outside, bat raised in front of him, and shouts as he scans the area for the men who broke his door down.

The dad-of-two then takes several steps through the front garden, following the path of the fleeing thugs.

As he does he swings the bat in his hand.

The footage of the incident then ends as Devin approaches the garden gate.

Speaking about the ordeal, Devin said: “I needed to protect my family

“My reaction was to get downstairs as quickly as I could and confront them and defend my home.”

After receiving the notification Devin admitted that he believed he was watching live footage when he bravely stormed downstairs to confront the two men.

There was a 20 second delay on the clip however, meaning the thugs had already left when he got to the door.

Devin added: “I wasn’t that far behind them.

“It was only afterwards that we realised they had actually forced entry.

“They went as soon as they heard the Ring chime and that we were aware that they were trying to break in.”

Following the attempted break in Devin immediately contacted the police and said a forensics team came to look for evidence.

He said officers were surprised the intruders came so late in the morning and suspected they were rookies.

The father-of-two has since fitted more locks and security to the family home.

He said the incident had left him and his kids, aged five and nine, shaken as they had always thought the area was safe.

The brave dad said he has lived in West Wickham for six years, and nothing like this had happened before.

He added that burglaries and break-ins were “not common in the area.”

Devin said: “I had felt very safe before. West Wickham has always felt like a safe place.

“Incidents like this are in my view isolated but we are a lot more cautious and vigilant now.

“It makes you think twice and look over your shoulder a bit more. I am quite shocked and surprised to see this happen.

“The area is very community led and friendly so to experience something like this here feels like the area is being targeted.”

No arrests have been made yet, with the Metropolitan Police saying they understood “the community concern these incidents caused.”

Cops are still probing the attempted burglary.
