Both the Montreal police officer and civilian victim killed in Monday’s shooting have been identified.

Montreal police announced “with profound sadness” that Const. Mohamed Lamine Benredouane was the officer who was killed in the line of duty during an intervention in the Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood.

He was 34 years old. He had been with the force since 2021.

The civilian who died in the fatal shooting was Michel Mizrahi.

On Facebook, Quebec MNA Monsef Derraji paid tribute to Mizrahi.

“Our thoughts are with his family, friends and loved ones during this time of unimaginable pain. We offer them our deepest condolences,” he wrote.

The SPVM says its flags are at half-mast to pay tribute to the fallen officer.

“Fallen, but never forgotten,” the SPVM said.

Benredouane and Mizrahi were both killed in a shooting that remains under investigation. One suspect who was allegedly involved in the shooting was killed. Another injured officer is in stable condition and a civilian sustained minor injuries.

Police were called to the scene Monday after a witness reported seeing a “gun sticking out of a window,” said police Chief Fady Dagher.

Quebec’s Domestic Security Minister Ian Lafrenière has said the shooting in Montreal remains a “domestic case” and is not related to terrorism.

Quebec’s police watchdog, the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI), has been assigned to investigate the events that took place during the intervention.

On its Facebook page, the City of Montreal expressed solidarity with members of the SPVM while acknowledging the other victims as well, including the injured officer.

“The City of Montreal reiterates its support and deep compassion for everyone affected by this tragedy,” the post said.
