A late-night party at a long-shuttered former adult theater in San Jose ended with nearly 100 minors detained after deputies shut down the chaotic scene, authorities said.

The incident unfolded around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, when Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the vacant Burbank Theater on South Bascom Avenue following reports of trespassing, loud vehicles and music blasting outside the property.

When deputies arrived, they discovered a large group of teens inside the abandoned building.

“After deputies made announcements, individuals inside attempted to flee by forcing open alternative exit doors, and several people were seen on the roof,” sheriff’s office spokesperson Brooks Jarosz told the SFGate.

Deputies ultimately cleared the building and established an incident command post nearby.

“The juveniles were seated on the sidewalk while awaiting pickup, admonished and advised not to return to the property,” Jarosz told SFGate.

Authorities said no weapons were recovered and no injuries were reported.

It remains unclear whether any arrests were made or charges filed.

The Burbank Theater, which first opened in 1951, once operated as an adult cinema before shutting its doors in 2000.

In 2024, SiliconValley.com reported the site was under consideration for a housing project that could preserve the building’s iconic vertical “Burbank” sign.
