New ‘poot’ fashion trend is dividing the internet: ‘Silly in my opinion’

The internet is losing its mind over the ultimate, baffling fashion hybrid: the “poot.”

Yes, you read that correctly.

A “poot” is a pair of pants that seamlessly extend all the way down into a built-in boot.

While high fashion houses like Balenciaga and Loewe have been playing with pant-boot illusions on the runway, the look has officially breached containment and landed on TikTok.

Creators interested in fashion have thrown the internet into a frenzy by unboxing and styling the seamless leg coverings.

The immediate reaction from the public is pure, unadulterated confusion.

The trend deemed “silly“

While influencers are romanticizing the sleek, ultra-streamlined silhouette on our feeds, fashion critics are throwing up a massive red flag.

Fashion commentator Annalise Salm didn’t hold back when assessing the practical nightmare of the viral trend, pointing out that the math simply doesn’t add up for everyday consumers.

Salm labelled the shoe “crazy” and said the item is “clearly a trend, not an investment piece”.

“So expect that you’re probably only going to wear it once, maybe twice, so the CPW (cost-per-wear) is crazy high,” Salm told news.com.au.

Content creator and aspiring fashion influencer Anthony agreed with Salm, saying the boots are going to be a quick trend.

He predicts people who buy the shoe will “get over it” within a few weeks once the hype settles down.

“I don’t think it’s going to be something that’s going to blow up, and I don’t think it’s going to last a while,” he said.

Beyond the brutal hit to your wallet, Salm highlights a glaring logistical flaw that the manufacturing process seems to have completely ignored: the human body isn’t a one-size-fits-all mannequin.

“Second thing to consider: leg height and foot size are two different dimensions,” Salm explained.

“If you’re a size 8 shoe but petite, how do the leggings fit? Vice versa, if you’re a shoe size 5 but tall, how will that fit?”

Then there is the ultimate expiration date of the garment.

In the real world, shoes get scuffed, heels snap, and soles wear out.

But when your boot dies, it takes your entire lower wardrobe down with it.

“Not to mention your shoe breaks? There go your pants as well,” Salm added.

“Silly in my opinion.”

A logistic nightmare

It’s a sentiment heavily echoed by commenters who are viewing the trend with a mix of awe and horror.

Some were desperate to get their hands on a pair.

“I want it,” one person commented on TikTok.

“I love them,” a second wrote.

Under viral videos of the poots, the comment sections have essentially turned into an active debate over basic human anatomy and social etiquette.

“My first thought is how does sizing work on this thing,” one person commented with a crying emoji.

“How do you wash it?” another asked.

“Since when do we have to take our shoes off to go to the bathroom?” a third chimed in.

While poots might give you the uninterrupted, elongated leg line of a high-fashion runway model, it seems the consensus for average citizens is loud and clear.
