Florida State softball was swept by the Cardinal during the regular season, but came back with hot bats and clutch pitching to cruise into ACC Tournament championship game.

Lineup

  • 3B – Jaysoni Beachum (JR)

  • LF – Ashtyn Danley (JR)

  • RF – Bella Ruggiero (R FR)

  • DP – Shelby McKenzie (SO)

  • 1B – Hayley Griggs (FR)

  • 2B – Makenna Sturgis (FR)

  • RHP – Bella Dimitrijevic (FR)

Recap

1st Inning

Bella Dimitrijevic only allowed one base runner in her first inning. The one out walk was stranded on base after a strike out and ground out by the freshman.

Facing Alyssa Houston for the Cardinal, back to back walks were issued to the top of the FSU lineup. With two on base, Ashtyn Danley’s double scored one run. One pitch later, a wild pitch added the second run.

Still with no outs, and a runner on third, Anna Hinde reached on a fielder’s choice, forcing Stanford to make a play at home. An error on the throw allowed Danley to score and make it 3-0.

2nd Inning

Still facing Houston, one out singles from Makenna Sturgis and Isa Torres had runners in scoring position. A Jaysoni Beachum ground out extended the lead, followed by a single from Danley to make it 5-0 in front of Stanford.

4th Inning

A 1-2-3 inning from Dimitrijevic put the game in the bottom of the 4th inning, where Sturgis singled off of reliever, Anna Brewer. Brewer gave up two more singles, one of which was resulted in an RBI from Beachum. Now a 6-0 game, Stanford went back to the bullpen for Zoe Prystajko.

Facing a new pitcher, Danley extended her hitting streak with an RBI double. Looking to extend the lead over Stanford, a sacrifice fly and fielder’s choice put the Seminoles in run rule territory, now with a 9-0 score.

5th Inning

After four innings of shutout softball, Dimitrijevic’s day came to an end, and she was replaced with Danley. In the circle for the final inning, Danley got the first two outs before a double and hit by pitch had two runners on. She only needed one pitch to get the last out, securing the run rule win over Stanford and advancing to the title game.
