Barcelona and Bayern Munich were reportedly interested in Ajax star winger Mika Godts before they secured alternative targets.
While PSG appear to be the only club to have made a concrete move for Godts, club watcher Mike Verweij has mentioned the Belgian being courted by both Barca and Bayern.
As Godts featured for Ajax as they beat Shelbourne 3-1 in the Europa Conference League third round qualifying round, the Amsterdam club prepared to receive a second bid of between 50 and 55 million euros from the Parisians.
Speaking on the Kick-off show, Verweij said of the wide man’s continued on-field presence: “Mika Godts wants to say goodbye to Ajax in a very good and beautiful way.”
“I also spoke briefly yesterday with his agent Niels De Jonck, who was also in the stadium. He said: not playing football was never an option. But of course, there may come a moment when Ajax and PSG get closer, and it is the wisest course of action for all parties.”
Verweij then revealed that two other big clubs were previously in for Godts. “I also heard yesterday, and not from Niels De Jonck, that Barcelona and Bayern Munich were very seriously in the market for Mika Godts.”
“Bayern ultimately wanted a player who could also play as a number nine, which is why they eventually chose Saibari. So it was indeed a trade-off between Godts and Saibari. On behalf of Barcelona, Deco (the club’s sporting director) visited the Arena several times to scout Godts. That is probably the reason why Jordi Cruyff has said: if clubs like this come forward, let him play here for another year. Then he won’t lose his value.”
