Malik Nabers and Odell Beckham Jr. are both wide receivers who attended LSU. They have a lot more in common, though, than just that.
-
Both were selected in the top half of Round 1 in the NFL Draft by the New York Giants.
-
Both became immediate stars.
-
Both have received backlash from the New York media for words or deeds that were deemed inappropriate or distracting.
-
Both have suffered major injuries.
All of which adds another layer to Beckham’s return to the Giants. Can the now 33-year-old Beckham, with the benefit of time and the experience of having gone through everything Nabers is experiencing, be a positive influence on Nabers, who does not turn 23 until the end of July?
“Trust me, I know all the things to do, and I know the things not to do,” Beckham said.
“I think I can be a great asset for him. Even when I wasn’t here, I was hitting him up. I’m like, ‘Yo,’ – no offense – ‘I know how they are. I know how they are going to turn. Just telling you.’”
Right now, Nabers is going through a difficult rehab from last season’s torn ACL and meniscus that has included two surgeries and brought questions about when he will play in 2026.
“I think through this process, which has been a tough process, but I think he’s going to come out on the other end better. I can’t wait to see him back on the field,” Beckham said of Nabers.
“Obviously, we know what kind of player he is. Just however I can help him.”
