NYS man headed to prison for trying to hire hog farmer to kill love rival, feed him to pigs

What a pig.

An insanely jealous upstate nut was hit with a seven-year prison sentence Tuesday for trying to hire a hog farmer to kill his girlfriend’s ex and feed him to his pigs — for $1,000 and a bottle of Wild Turkey bourbon.

Unfortunately for Jeal Sutherland, 58, the hit man was an undercover FBI agent.

“Jeal Sutherland thought he could order up the murder of his romantic rival right from his cell phone,” John Sarcone, first assistant US Attorney for the Northern District of New York, said in a statement.

“Thanks to the hard work of FBI Albany and members of my office, Sutherland will now be dialing out from a federal prison for the foreseeable future.”

Sutherland first hatched the plot in November 2024, when he used his cell phone to enlist the services of a hit man to kill his love interest’s ex, who she has a child with, federal prosecutors said.

He offered to pay $1,000 and a bottle of the brand name bourbon for the dirty deed, with the understanding that the supposed hitman would dispose of the body at a Pennsylvania hog farm.

In January 2025, he left an ominous message for the intended target’s mom — the carcass of a Canada goose dumped on the woman’s doorstep, the feds said.

It wasn’t until his arrest on Jan. 27, 2025, that the plotting dope found out his hog farmer was really a federal agent who had been keeping tabs on the scheme from the start.

Sutherland pleaded guilty in May to using an interstate commerce facility in a murder-for-hire plot.

He was sentenced Tuesday to 7 1/4 years in prison and ordered to pay a $15,000 fine.

“The details of Mr. Sutherland’s callous plans are deeply disturbing and prove he had every intention of ending a life,” Craig Tremaroli, special agent in charge in FBI’s Albany office, said in a statement.

“Instead, his vicious and intricate plot has landed him in federal prison.”

“This case clearly illustrates the FBI will work tirelessly with our law enforcement partners to swiftly investigate and interrupt any individual looking to carry out such egregious acts of violence in our communities.”
