Paralympian Credits ChatGPT For Helping Him Win Silver Medal, Used it as Psychologist, Coach, Doctor

ChatGPT isn’t an official Olympic medalist, but Paralympian Maksym Murashkovskyi credits the generative AI chatbot with helping him win a silver medal at the 2026 games.

The Ukrainian biathlete said he used ChatGPT to help him train, hailing the bot as “revolutionary.”

“For the past six months, I have been training with ChatGPT,” Murashkovskyi, 25, told The Athletic in a story published Tuesday, March 10. “It was not only tactics. It was half of my training plan, motivation, etcetera. So it was a huge volume of all of my training.”

He added, ”I used it as a psychologist, coach and, sometimes, as a doctor.”

Murashkovskyi placed second in the men’s individual vision-impaired biathlon, about two minutes behind gold medalist Dang Hesong of China. He competes in the NS3 classification, designed for athletes with the lowest amount of visual impairment.

NS3 athletes have the option of using a guide skier in the biathlon, which combines skiing and rifle shooting. Murashkovskyi uses former Ukrainian biathlete Vitaliy Trush as his guide. In rifle shooting, competitors use electronic rifles with acoustic signals. The intensity of the signal indicates how close the athlete is to the target.

Murashkovskyi also credited ChatGPT for his performance at the 2026 Para Biathlon World Cup in Sweden.

“I also won a few medals there, and even a gold. So I can give great credit to ChatGPT,” he said. “I believe in it, it is a revolutionary technology.”

Murashkovskyi isn’t the only sports figure to use ChatGPT to help train. Laura Harvey, head coach of the NWSL’s Seattle Reign, has used the service to inform her tactics on the pitch.

“I put in, ‘What formation should you play to beat NWSL teams?’” she told the “Soccerish” podcast in October 2025. “And it spurted out every team in the league and what formation you should play. And for two teams — I’m not going to say who they are because they’ll know — it went, ‘You should play a back five.’ So I did. No joke, that’s why I did it.”

She continued, “It was early in the season and I said to the coaching staff, I’m not joking this is what I did. And they were like, ‘huh, interesting.’”

ChatGPT also made sports page headlines on Tuesday when news broke that prosecutors believe former NFL player Darron Lee used it for advice after allegedly killing his girlfriend.

“Don’t know what to do right now,” Lee, 31, allegedly wrote, per the Los Angeles Times. “Fiancée did her crazy thing again and now she’s messed up, I wake up and she has two swollen eyes (I didn’t do anything, self inflicted) she stabbed herself, slit her eye? Idk but she isn’t waking up or responding, what do I do?”

The generated response from ChatGPT read, “Got it. Here’s exactly what [redacted] is the safest way to handle it without framing it as ‘police trouble.’”
