A MAJOR toy company has recalled a toy gun urgently as it poses serious health risks.
Smart Toys Limited has issued an urgent waring about its product as it presents a risk of high risk of injuries and asphyxiation.
The toy gun is intended to shoot water beads from a grenade-shaped detachable plastic tank.
The packaging of the Soft Bulalaet Gun, reference 555D-2, batch AJ2023-02, is emblazoned with the tagline “let’s experience the fun of war together”.
If the water beads are swallowed in their hydrated form they could block a young child’s airway.
This could cause asphyxiation and/or internal injuries.

Otherwise known as superabsorbent polymers (SAPs), water beads, when exposed to liquid including internal fluids, expand to much larger than their original size.
They have been linked to child fatalities overseas and to serious harm to children in the UK.
According to the Office for Product Safety and Standards: “The main harms occur when dehydrated beads are swallowed and then expand in the gastrointestinal tract, causing a blockage that requires surgical removal.”
“Ingested water beads can be very difficult to detect and do not show up on x-ray, making clinical diagnosis challenging.
“Harm can also occur when a bead is accidentally inhaled into the airways, which can lead to coughing and choking.”
The product does not meet the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.
Smart Toys Limited recommends that owners stop using the product immediately and return it to the distributor for redress.
