A Quebec-based RCMP police officer has been arrested for allegedly threatening U.S. President Donald Trump online.

In a statement, the RCMP Federal Policing Eastern Region announced Evenson Dumerlus, 34, of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que, was arrested after allegedly posting a video on his Snapchat account in which he made threatening comments toward Trump.

The alleged events reportedly occurred while he was deployed on G7 security operations in June 2025.

The investigation was taken over by the Special Investigations Unit after an RCMP officer reported the video. After reviewing the evidence, investigators acted quickly, and Dumerlus was removed from his duties on the same day as the incident, the statement says.

RCMP officer charged with uttering threats targeting Trump

A Quebec-based RCMP officer has been arrested for allegedly threatening U.S. President Donald Trump. The officer allegedly posted a video containing threats on his Snapchat account while he was deployed during the G7 summit in June 2025.

Dumerlus is facing a charge of uttering threats and is expected to appear on July 30 at the St-Jean-sur-Richelieu courthouse.

“The RCMP takes seriously any threats that can affect one’s sense of security,” the statement says. “Violent statements will not be tolerated.”

The RCMP encourages the public to report such activities to the police.

Joe Routh, a spokesperson for the U.S. Secret Service, told CBC the agency is aware of the social media post allegedly made by the police officer, but “out of concern for operational security, we do not discuss matters of protective intelligence.”
