Nick Reiner was reportedly disciplined for being “extremely hostile” toward deputies in jail.
During the April 27 incident at the Los Angeles County Twin Towers Correctional Facility, Reiner, 32, allegedly became frustrated and “impatient” when deputies did not immediately escort him back to his cell after he finished showering and changed into a fresh set of inmate clothing, People reported on Wednesday, July 29.
The son of late filmmaker Rob Reiner and wife Michele Singer Reiner allegedly created a “verbal disturbance” by “yelling, screaming, being disrespectful and shouting many profanities,” a source familiar with the situation told the outlet, claiming the incident took place in the jail’s medical observation unit, where inmates are escorted to a locked steel shower.
The delay was reportedly caused by an emergency elsewhere in the unit after another inmate suffered an apparent overdose.
When Nick became agitated and allegedly started causing a scene, a deputy called for backup, resulting in three additional guards responding to the disturbance.
The confrontation never became physical, the outlet noted. Nick reportedly received a disciplinary write-up for allegedly violating jail rules and lost inmate privileges for five days, including phone calls, visitation and commissary access. A disciplinary officer reportedly met with Nick to explain the violation and discuss his behavior.

Nick has spent the last seven months behind bars as he awaits trial for the murders of his parents. Rob, 78, and Michele, 70, were found stabbed to death at their home in Los Angeles in December 2025. Nick was subsequently arrested, although he has denied any wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty to the murders.
Nick appeared in court in April, where he waived his right to the 30-day preliminary period. He is set to appear in court again for a preliminary hearing on September 15, where prosecutors will present evidence to be able to formally charge him.
In addition to Nick, Rob and Michele shared kids Jake, 35, and Romy, 28. Rob was also the adoptive father of ex-wife Penny Marshall’s daughter, Tracy, 62.
Jake remembered his late parents in a lengthy essay in April.
“A week from today, I will be approaching my first birthday without my parents,” he wrote. “I consider myself lucky to have had them by my side for the past 34 years. In the last four months, I’ve learned a lot about grief. I want to thank @iamdavidkessler, who has been instrumental in navigating the horrors of this process, as well as my family and friends.”
Jake concluded, “For anyone dealing with any type of grief and loss, I see you.”
