Simone Biles Responds to Fan Who Demands ‘Update’ About Near-Death Health Experience

Simone Biles is making it clear that she will update followers on her self-described near-death experience on her own time.

“Not ready to talk about it just yet,” Biles, 29, wrote via Instagram after a follower commented on a recent post that they “never got the update on [her] near death experience.”

The Olympic gymnast revealed on June 6 that she was recovering from a scary incident, though she didn’t go into details about what happened.

“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age. But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card this week,” Biles wrote via her Instagram Story at the time over a photo of her arm, which appeared to have three hospital wristbands on it.

She added that her husband, Indianapolis Colts safety Jonathan Owens, was in Indiana for team workouts at the time.

“This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life, especially since Jonathan was in Indy for practices,” Biles wrote. “I’ve been in bed resting this week. I’ll explain sooner or later, but [shoutout] to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited & or sent flowers.”

Biles later shared more photos, showing get-well gifts she received from family members and her hospital bed.

One week after Biles’ incident, she revealed via her Instagram Story that she and Owens, 30, were taking a needed “baecation.”

“Do not disturb, please & thank you,” she wrote in a subsequent post over a photo of the ocean.

Owens has also not yet addressed Biles’ health scare. The two met in 2020, during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, on the celebrity dating app Raya. As professional athletes, both have had the opportunity to cheer the other on — and offer help when facing adversity.

“It was one of the few times in her life where everything was just shut off and she couldn’t do anything,” Owens told Texas Monthly in 2021 of meeting Biles during the pandemic. “We used it to get to know each other — really get to know each other. It created our bond and made it stronger. Now, I’m so thankful.”

Owens added in a July 2024 interview with Us Weekly that his relationship with Biles has helped him on the field. The two married in 2023.

“I’ve played a lot better since [meeting Simone],” he said. “I’ve just been focused and locked in, and you come home, talk about my day and play with the dogs, you know what I mean? That’s just kind of, like, our thing.”
