SNOW is set to hit Britain again as temperatures plunge, the Met Office has said.
Bracing North-Atlantic air will sweep across the North West from Wednesday – bringing plunging temps and strong wind.
And Brits should be on alert for “wintry hazards” from Friday – with snow on high ground and on lower hills in parts.
Jason Kelly, Chief Operational Meteorologist for the Met Office said: “A notable shift in wind direction to a north-westerly flow will bring a markedly colder day nationwide on Friday, with the potential for a mixture of sunny spells, heavy showers, coastal gales, and snow over high ground.
“There’s also the possibility of accumulations on lower hills too.
“The picture will become clearer closer to the time, so keep an eye on our forecast as the week progresses.”

Today’s forecast is cloudy for the most part but winds will increase throughout the day, breaking up cloud cover.
Rain will reach the West by the evening and be heavy in areas with gales developing in the far North West.
Cloud and Rain will clear in the South East by mid-morning on Wednesday, offering sunny spells and ‘blustery showers’, particularly in Western Scotland.
The South East will see the best weather with near or above average peaks of 15C compared to high single digits in the North West.
Thursday will bring sharp winds for many and heavy showers with the North West hit the hardest.
Meanwhile bright spells are possible in southern and eastern areas.
Daytime temperatures will plunge as the week goes on, struggling to reach double digits by Friday with ‘wintry hazards’ set to come.
The cloudy and foggy conditions are to be swept away by strong Atlantic winds causing some areas to dip to freezing.
Gusts of 40-50mph are expected throughout the weekend as a grim area of low pressure moves across most of the country.
It will be worst in the North West, which may see winds of up to 60mph.
But there is hope on the horizon.
High pressure will return after the weekend bringing with it drier conditions.
However there is likely to be many weeks of mixed mild and cold weather.
Earlier this year Storm Goretti hit the UK with damaging 99mph wind gusts and heavy snow leaving nearly 70,000 homes without power.
Brits on the south west coast were battered by fierce gales and torrential rain while those in the Midlands were hit with snow.
