The force also arrested two women aged 28 and 24 on suspicion of assisting an offender.
A resident told Wales Online: “It is quite shocking to hear.
“It’s definitely the scariest thing to happen in the village. You don’t hear about murder often especially in the valleys. Abertridwr is a very tight knit community.”
Another local said: “It was a massive shock. The street is very very quiet and it’s largely middle aged to elderly people. You wouldn’t expect anything like this to happen on your doorstep.”
A Gwent Police spokesperson said: “A 17-year-old from Abertridwr was pronounced dead at the scene; his family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
“Three men, a 26-year-old from London, a 24-year-old from Abertridwr and an 18-year-old from Cardiff, were all arrested on suspicion of murder.
“Two women, a 28-year-old from Hereford and 24-year-old from Senghenydd, were both arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
“All five remain in police custody as enquiries continue.”
Detective Chief Inspector Jitka Tomkova-Griffiths, senior investigating officer, said: “We understand that reports of this nature can be concerning, and it is likely that residents will see an increased number of officers in the area while we carry out further enquires.
“It is important that people do not speculate about the identities of those involved as this could present problems to our investigation.
