Barcelona could soon find themselves with an unexpected opportunity in the transfer market as two of Spain’s most accomplished left-backs have openly spoken about the possibility of returning to La Liga in the future.

With uncertainty still surrounding the long-term depth at left-back, the names of Marc Cucurella and Alejandro Grimaldo are once again generating attention, according to SPORT.

Both defenders are enjoying successful careers away from Spain, yet recent comments suggest neither has ruled out a return to their home country.

That development could become particularly relevant for Barcelona, especially if changes occur within Hansi Flick’s defensive structure during the summer.

Having progressed through La Masia before establishing himself elsewhere, the Chelsea defender has repeatedly acknowledged that returning to Spain remains something he thinks about.

Speaking recently about the possibility of playing in his homeland again, Cucurella said:

“Spain is always Spain; it’s where I grew up and you always think about going back.

“Obviously, if those kinds of opportunities come up, they’re hard to turn down, but I’d have to think it over and talk to my family,” he had said.

His profile continues to attract attention from clubs in Spain, with reports suggesting Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are among those monitoring his situation.

Meanwhile, Alejandro Grimaldo has been even more direct regarding his future ambitions.

The Bayer Leverkusen defender has developed into one of Europe’s most complete full-backs and has openly admitted that returning to Spain remains one of his career objectives.

“I want to play for a major club in Spain.”

Opportunity for Barcelona

From Barcelona’s perspective, the situation is worth monitoring closely.

This is because while Alejandro Balde remains highly valued within the club, there is growing uncertainty surrounding the squad’s long-term depth in that position.

Should circumstances change during the transfer window, Barcelona could be forced to enter the market for an experienced replacement.

In that scenario, both Grimaldo and Cucurella would offer attractive solutions.
