Quick-thinking Virginia first responders formed a human chain to rescue a driver who was trapped in a sinking car after crashing into a pond, dramatic video shows.
Fairfax County cops and firefighters waded through a Chantilly pond Sunday afternoon to pull the woman from her sinking silver vehicle, according to police bodycam of the rescue shared online.
“It’s going down,” a cop shouted before three officers quickly removed their vests to avoid being pulled down by the water and jumped into the pond.
The officers made their way to the car, pulled the driver out, and instructed those standing on a grassy bank to start forming a chain.
Those in the water were then pulled to safety — and the woman was treated for minor injuries, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department said.
It’s unclear why she drove into the pond and the cause of the crash is being probed.
“This rescue is a testament to the teamwork, training, and dedication our Fairfax County first responders bring every day,” police said.
