Warriors’ reported trade offer for Giannis revealed

The Golden State Warriors reportedly held interest in making a move for Giannis Antetokounmpo ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline. Ultimately, Giannis remained with the Milwaukee Bucks. Unfortunately for the Warriors, their pursuit of the two-time MVP never really picked up much momentum, despite the franchise’s well-documented interest.

In a recent article for ESPN, Ramona Shelburne revealed that Golden State offered a package built around four unprotected first-round picks. However, the Bucks were more interested in landing a genuine young building block such as VJ Edgecombe or Evan Mobley, or the Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers, respectively.

As such, the Warriors’ best shot at landing Giannis would be in the free agency market when his current contract expires in 2027. The problem Golden State will face is that Milwaukee will likely make a move before then, either to re-sign Giannis or to trade him elsewhere in the league.

“It’s not an accident that teams like the Lakers, Clippers, Heat and Warriors all have lined up to have cap space in 2027 when Giannis can be a free agent,” an NBA executive told ESPN. “A player like Giannis can tilt the balance of power in the league for years to come.”

Pairing Giannis with Stephen Curry is likely still a dream scenario for the Warriors front office. On paper, the partnership would be ideal. Nevertheless, the Warriors would face stern competition in pursuit of the All-Star forward, and given what the Bucks will want in return, Golden State may not have the necessary assets to get a deal over the line.
