After Duke beat Michigan in the 1992 NCAA Tournament championship game, Grant Hill gave Fab Five member Chris Webber his Blue Devils jersey to pass along to his youngest brother David.
More than 30 years later, David Webber gave Hill back his No. 33 jersey as part of a promo for the new “Chris Webber Show.”
“For you to give him a jersey to give to me after you won a national championship game is insane. That was insane,” said David, who received the gift when he was 12.
“What we want to do is first off say thank you for inspiring me. … We want to give this back to you to leave a legacy for your children, your future grandchildren.”
Hill had 18 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in that 71-51 title game win over Michigan, while Chris Webber posted 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Webber went on to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 1993 NBA Draft and Hill was drafted by the Detroit Pistons with the No. 3 pick the following year. David Webber played at Detroit Country Day, where his older brother starred, and played his college ball at Central Michigan, where he was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Year in 2001.
