PRO-PALESTINE activists have defaced a statue of Sir Winston Churchill and branded him a “Zionist war criminal” in graffiti.
The red paint scrawled on the Westminster statue also reads “Stop the genocide” and “Never again is now”.
Other phrases included “Globalise the Intifada” and “Free Palestine”. The protesters reportedly wrote “Greetings from the Hague” in Dutch.
The paint appeared overnight on the statue in Parliament Square as wardens were seen trying to cover the vandalism with bin bags.
The bronze statue has been cordoned off while it is cleaned.
It has been in the square since 1973
At the end of last year the Met Police and Greater Manchester Police ruled that anyone “globalise the intifada” would face arrest.
This ruling followed the Bondi Beach terror attack and the tragic attack on Heaton Park synagogue in Manchester.
The Metropolitan Police and Westminster City Council have been contacted for comment.
