The Arizona Cardinals will be without the No. 3 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft for at least a week.

Head coach Mike LaFleur said Saturday that running back Jeremiyah Love suffered an ankle injury during the team’s preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders Thursday.

Love, despite not having much concern after the game, entered the building sore on Friday.

“He was in great spirits, even Friday,” LaFleur said. “But we’ll keep him out this week as we let it heal. So, a little bit more sore than we were anticipating.”

When asked how Love’s injury could affect his Week 1 status, LaFleur declined to look further than Saturday’s practice.

“This week, and then we’ll kind of go from there and reevaluate,” LaFleur said. “Honestly, all the focus is on Aug. 15, Saturday. Here we are in our Tempe block (of practice). We’ll kind of reevaluate going into next week. But he will be out this week.”

LaFleur said Love will not play in the team’s second preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys next Saturday. Love recorded 11 carries for 58 yards and three catches for 14 yards in the Cardinals’ first preseason game.

With Love out, Tyler Allgeier will step into the starting role with Bam Knight and Corey Kiner backing him up. Veteran running back James Conner has not yet participated in 11-on-11 drills as he recovers from a right foot injury that forced him to miss 14 games last season.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, Love is not the only rookie who sustained an injury in the team’s first preseason game. Second-round pick Chase Bisontis, who was in contention for the starting right guard position, tore the MCL in his left knee.

LaFleur said Bisontis will be placed on injured reserve, delivering a huge blow to the Cardinals’ offensive line. He will undergo surgery on the injured knee.

“He’ll be out for a good amount of time, if not the whole year,” LaFleur said. “Sucks for him. Always think about the player first. Sucks for the Cardinals too. He’s a good player, but more importantly, you hate it for the player.”
